How long is a driving course valid?

Przejdź od razu do tematu

A driving license course, a PKK number, and a passed theoretical exam are all valid indefinitely, but there are a few important things you should keep in mind. In this article, you will find out what might actually expire and how long a driving license course remains valid.

Your PKK Number (Driver Candidate Profile) – Pay Attention to This Detail!

Before you start training at your chosen driving school (OSK) and take your driving exams, you need to visit the local Department of Motor Vehicles (Wydział Komunikacji) to get your PKK number. You will need to submit the following documents:

  • Medical certificate
  • A recent photo (the same type as for an ID card or passport)
  • PKK application form
  • Your current driving license along with a photocopy (if you already hold one)
  • An ID card or passport
  • For foreign citizens: a residence card (karta pobytu), a visa, or any other document proving you have been residing in Poland for more than 185 days, as well as proof of residence in Poznań.

Note: Medical certificates often expire after a few years. If you already have one from the past, make sure it is still valid!

Once you complete these formalities, you will receive your PKK number. With it, you can either take your theoretical exam directly at WORD (Provincial Traffic Center) or sign up at your chosen driving school, where they will guide you through the rest of the process. At Vroom Driving School in Poznań we support you with all the paperwork from the very moment you apply for your PKK number.

The next step to getting your license is the theoretical course and exam at WORD. How long is the theoretical exam valid?

Any theoretical exam passed after August 24, 2014, is valid indefinitely. Even if you took and passed the exam 10 years ago, you won’t have to retake it. This remains a bit controversial in the driving school community, as traffic regulations in Poland change very dynamically. However, as of right now, you can return after a long break without having to repeat the theory section.

How long is a driving license course valid? Does it expire or last forever?

If you completed your course after July 1, 1998, its validity is indefinite. This means that, in theory, you could sign up for your practical exam today. Keep in mind, however, that road regulations change quickly. Before attempting the state exam after a long break, it is highly recommended to take a few refresher driving lessons with an instructor.

Note: If you took your driving course many years ago and are now returning to it, WORD might require a course completion certificate (zaświadczenie o ukończeniu kursu). If you don’t have it, contact the driving school where you completed your Category B course to gather the necessary documents proving you actually finished training there.

In short, if you paused or finished your driving course after July 1, 1998, validity is not an issue. Taking the state driving exam after many years is still entirely possible.

Your driving course remains valid indefinitely, and you can resume your efforts to get a license at any time. If you want to make sure the process of resuming your Category B driving course goes smoothly, just just contact our school – we will help you with everything, even if you are returning to the exam after years. We will determine how many hours of driving practice you need to feel fully prepared and confident for your state exam.

Driving License Expiry Date – How Long Is Your Physical Document Valid?

How long your driving license remains valid depends entirely on what the doctor wrote on your medical certificate. If there are no medical counter-indications, a driving license is valid for 15 years. However, this period can be shorter if, for example, you have a progressive vision defect.

When your license is about to expire, you must obtain a new medical certificate and handle the paperwork at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Don’t worry, though – you will not have to retake the driving exam like a first-time learner.
